Toward the understanding of sulfur poisoning mechanism

ABSTRACT

 

The NOx storage-reduction (NSR) catalyst is generally considered as one of the potential options for effectively removing NOx in the diesel engine exhaust.  However, the sulfur poisoning is considered to be the main obstacle for the NSR technology.  Hence, the understanding the sulfation and desulfation mechanism would provide the strategy to mitigate the sulfur effect.  This presentation aims to introduce the NSR catalyst and demonstrate the fundamental research about sulfur poisoning mechanism.  The change of sulfur containing species resulting from sulfation and desulfation, and the effect of various parameters such as sulfur loadings and H2O on the desulfation were extensively investigated by using the state-of-the-art characterization tools.
